I've been recently looking to rent an apartment with a friend. I went to look at a couple of great places but they checked my credit score/report and said I don't qualify for the place because of my credit rating. I didn't know they did this.

I've never had any credit cards, and have never applied for any credit or loans, etc. So I have absolutely no idea what could be on my report. I've never checked my credit score.

So how do I get a copy of my credit report and find out my credit score? I was told that the online credit report sites are generally not accurate. Do I have to mail a request somewhere and wait for a letter back? Do I have to pay?

Hi, that site is $30 a month. Is there a way I can do it for just a one time fee?

Having loans and credit cards help your credit score. Those things help to establish your credit worthiness.

If you haven't had any of those you might want to start working on getting some to establish credit and getting a good credit score.

How will I establish credit if my score is low and won't be able to qualify for a credit card or a loan?

The credit report is free. Start with your credit report. It is possible there is something negative on your report. Check it and see.

Since you can check each credit bureau one time every 12 months for free, many people make a habit of pulling one every 4 months, rotating between the 3 bureaus.

It's easy to get your credit SCORE number for free. Go take a test drive of a car, and tell them you want to buy. They'll check your credit, and will tell you your score.

If it's that bad, they'll then help you to the door, but you'll then know your credit score...

I would try applying for a Discover Card which gives you your credit card for free every month.

no , that is for their credit monitoring service , look again you will see free credit reports . but remember that is your report only , not your score which they charge for .
