Don't know if anyone has mentioned FreeTaxUSA.com, but it's free for everyone, no matter what their income or filing status. State filing is 12.95 but in my state you can eFile for free on the state website, so I just decline that.

If used it for over a decade now and have no complaints except the cost. There are others out there now and I keep meaning to give them a try but every year I just blindly do what I've always done.

I always try to do my own taxes online first through the IRS. Turbox Tax almost always finds more tax breaks for me. This is the first year we came up with the same figures so I actually didn't use them this year. But in years past where they did come back with a bigger refund, I went ahead and paid it, then learned where they found the breaks.

This year, for the first time in probably EVER, I decided not to use a CPA to do my taxes. My income is pretty low, I'm single, my tax situation is not complex, and I could use that $275 that I always paid the CPA.

First I went to the IRS website and with their online help I prepared my own 1040A using paper and pencil. The bottom line said I was due for a sizeable tax refund, similar to last year and the year before that.

Then I went to Turbo Tax's website and went through the process, which was free for me because of my low income. Also I live in Florida, which has no state income tax. I actually enjoyed using the online Turbo Tax; I found it very user-friendly and very helpful. It was time-consuming, but hey, it was free. And at the end of the process I learned I was due for the exact same refund that I calculated using paper and pencil. So I e-filed my return.

That was about 8 days ago. Today I checked my bank account online, and my refund from IRS has been deposited. So yes, I'm pretty happy with Turbo Tax.

I use it. It's never given me a hard time and they always find the most breaks for me.
