Hello,
I have really had it with my Verizon Fios cable bill and the amount of money we pay for internet, cell phones, home phone and cable TV. We have 3 cable boxes, 2 cell phones , home phone and internet and pay a combined total of $ 367.00 a month! I feel this is too high! Keep in mind we do not have any premium channels such as HBO, Starz, etc. Can you please give me some suggestions on how to save on our bill? I have until April 8th before my current agreement with Verizon expires. I would like to change to a cheaper plan with another cable company. I have called Verizon and they did not even try to help me which disappointing us even more. I appreciate any help you can provide!!!

Well, if they are all too expensive, you've answered your own question - none of the above!

I pay $20 for ATT Internet and $0 for Tv since I stream all movies and shows from one of many android apps that are free. This service provides me the same thing as Netflix Hulu and sling box combined for free.

Directv is currently offering a $29.99 package for a year. Comcast always offers a TV/Internet/Voice plan for $99. Depends what services are available in your area.

With Verizon, is part of your bill paying for the phones you have? If so, that will not go away and if you change cell phone providers you will need to pay for the cost of the phones to get out of the contract.

To reduce your costs, you may have the change your quality of life. Do you REALLY need 3 boxes, maybe keep one and use that tv for the programs you must have and can not get through Netflex, etc.

Maybe change your cell phones to pay as you go. I have Verizon pay as you go where I pay 2 cents for each text and when I actually use the phone to talk I pay $1.99 for how many calls I do for that calendar day. I only call on the cell phone about twice in a month so loading $40 on the cell phone lasts for 3 months. I can use the phone for internet, but do not as it costs more than I will pay. I wait until I am at home with the computer.

Then get a package deal with the house phone, internet and ONE box. If they will not give you the package deal, say you want to cancel services and they will send you to a specialist who will want to make you happy.

Why do you have cable? If you MUST keep it buy your own equipment. Why do you have a home phone and cell phones?

None. I ditched cable.

$30/month wifi plan plus Netflix, Amazon video (already have prime) and also purchased a $30 over-the-air HDTV antenna for basic channels such as 4,5, 7, 25, etc.

No desire for cable ever again, plus I find the lack of mundane programming means I'm productive around the house vs sitting on my butt watching the Kardashians.

Verizon is not a cable company. It is a telephone company.

There are far too many variables in this to be able to make recommendations about cellular, internet, video, and telephone provider options.

What city?

What travel pattern?

What kind of cellular data usage?

What kind of internet usage?

What video is being watched? Are multiple video panels on at the same time?

What is the compelling need for wireline phone service?

Depending on the answers to those questions, there are all kinds of possible answers. My requirements are going to be completely different from the OP's requirements.

That's way too much, I pay $30/mo for my cell and $34.99/mo for my internet. Cut the cable, you can get most of that through the internet these days.

Looks like you are located in Cumberland County in NJ for starters.

I will tell you this. Most of what you will change will have an impact on your lifestyle. It may not be much, but going from an all-in-one source bill for everything to splitting stuff up and shedding bits and pieces will effect your life. It's up to you to determine if it's worth it or not.

You basically need internet. Play off the various providers. 50 mb service is typically fast enough for any streaming services you'll ever use. Anything else is overkill and not really needed unless you "want it".

Home phone. For starters you don't "need" a home phone if you have a cell. That being said, my wife wanted one so I went with an OBi device via Google Voice. It plugs into your router and then you can use your normal cordless phones. For free. There is some setup involved so most people go with Ooma which has an upfront cost and then around $3/month which includes taxes and e911. It's a turnkey VOIP solution.

Cell phones. This is really all about needs vs. wants. If you want the latest and greatest, super fast new phones, stick with what you've got. Otherwise, if you don't need this, prepaid offers a seamless solution and we've been on it after leaving Verizon around six years ago. If AT&T is good in your area Cricket offers a nice plan for $35/month. We use Net10 which resells from all providers but we use the Verizon sim card. The downside is they cap the data speed to around 6 mbps. So it's 4G but not super fast 4G. But the savings are fairly big.

TV/Cable. You can completely cutout cable altogether or do what we did. Cut Dish out and bought those super thin antennas for broadcast TV stations (ABC, NBC, Fox, etc.) and pay $20/month for SlingTV which offers a bunch of normal channels. We also got a Roku device and stream Sling and Netflix on it via that.

For two people our monthly internet/TV/home phone/cell phone bill is $155. Which actually still sounds like quite a bit! If/when we switch to Cricket it will save around $30/month bringing it down to $127.
