So I think something is off with my W-2. Between the 2014 and 2015 tax year, my retirement contributions remained the same, my actual salary was about $1,500 higher in 2015, yet box 1 of my 2015 shows a $10K increase from box 1 of my 2014 W-2. For the life of me, I have no idea how this could be. I want to do my taxes this week but the discrepancy is confusing to me. Any thoughts on what could be causing this given the info I provided?

Are you bi-weekly? You may have received 27 pay checks in 2015.

Did your withholding also increase?

No changes to my withholding, retirement contribution, and we still had 26 pay periods. This is so strange. The only change between the two years is the $1,500 pay increase in 2015.

I thought my W2 was off also so I went through all of my paychecks and fed all the info into Excel and was eventually able to reconcile everything. A higher bonus plus the extra pay check got me - first paycheck on 1/1/2015, 27th paycheck on 12/31/2015.

Needless to say I am not looking forward to filing my taxes this year.

Have you looked at your last paystubs for each year?
