I just recently found out about Bank of America's preferred rewards program. The benefits, mostly for the ATM reimbursements, are nice as are the free stock trades thru Merrill Edge.
I actually knew somewhat about the program prior to looking more in depth but always kissed it off because, quite frankly, who wants to have that kind of money in a checking or savings account at BoA when they pay 0.1% interest when you can make 1% thru other places? Well apparently they let you count your brokerage account balance as well in that, so now it makes a lot more sense.
I appreciate the responses above but I'm looking more at it from a perks point of view, for example you get free trades with $x balance in your Merrill Edge account and along with an ever increasing balance linked to your BoA account you get some nice perks as well.
Just wondering if other retail banks do this sort of thing and if so what are the perks. I'm not talking about credit card points or miles.

Wells Fargo also does this. I get a free PMA checking account (normally $30 per month) and 100 free trades per year in my WellsTrade brokerage account, simply because the two are linked and I have at least 50k. The PMA account includes atm reimbursement, free cashier checks, free notary service, etc.
It seems like a lot of focus is put on CC rewards and such but not too many look for these sort of programs that can offer quite a bit of value.
