I thought the same thing reading that response Built my home in 1990 and mortgage was paid off in 1998 when I was age 41. Have absolutely no regrets in doing this especially since my husband died 3 years later, and without a mortgage I was able to remain in my home and manage the taxes and other home ownership expenses on my income alone. In addition as my income grew, without a mortgage I was able to max out my Fed Gov 401K/TSP contributions which will most certainly enhance my retirement financial situation.

To the OP, big contrats on paying off your mortgage
