I simply dont believe in having more credit card than I can manage.. If I'm not going to use them ever again then it's close close close. With that said I have 7 credit cards and only carry 2 on me, only use 1 on a daily basis (Cap One QS). While at the drug store standing to left of another person at the register I notice this woman take like 15 secs to decide what card she wanted to put her purchase on. This woman must of been carrying 10-12 CC's on her person, she was shuffling thru them in a stack like playing cards.

Which leads me to my question. Why in the world do people carry all their cards on their person, do you really need more than 1-2 cards on your person at any one time?

I've got 8. I used to carry more. Two are specialized though (commuter and medical). I have my personal card and a joint card that I used for different types of expenses. Then a card I use for car stuff. Plus one more which is just a backup in case something happens to the others (I've had two knocked out due to fraud, at separate merchants, while I was out of town, so this has come in handy). Also two ATM cards (which can be used as debit cards in a pinch... courts don't take credit cards for bail).

I also have one I don't carry for Internet purchases (Amazon card), and Discover card which I hardly ever use.

Usually just 1. Not really any need to carry more. If I lose my wallet, less hassle with having to cancel multiple cards, etc.

Have 2, carry 2.
If everyone took Discover, I would cut that in half.

if your one card is declined for any reason why wouldn't you have another on hand?

As a cashier I see this every day and have wondered the same thing. I have four but only carry two Visa cards. The other two are store cards that I rarely ever use and when I do it's for online shopping.

I carry all four of my credit cards and both my debit cards, but more as a matter of keeping track of them than using them. I put most purchases on my debit card, and split the credit cards with my Amex or Discover.

Why do you always have to have some negative or nitpicky comment on every one of my posts?

Why would my card be declined since I don't carry any debt?
