Do you really not see that your priorities are messed up? You spend money on pizza, bottled water, and a fun trip, but not on your retirement or your medical bills. Do you really not see that if you didn't take this trip, and ate out less, you could save a few dollars and pay off your debt?

So you want me to not have fun and enjoy and make the Hospital richer? As long as they getting their money this month what is the issue?

Also Pizza and day trip are necessary when you work 40 hours a week because its food and entertainment.

So, no, you don't get it.

FYI, people who don't pay their bills, cause hospitals to charge the rest of us more, so thanks.

Why do you care about your credit score?

The doctor doesn't own the debt. The collection agency does.

Notice his screen name is "renter" I see this attitude a lot in low income tenants, which is why they will always be low income and always be either renters or homeless. And generally, they are blaming the wealthy for keeping them down. There is no sense of responsibility at all. It's just missing. Perhaps it is a birth defect?

I have dealt with some ridiculous medical bills in my past OP. One thing you can do is actually wait until the bill hits the collections agency and then you have a lot more bargaining power in getting it paid. I have gotten my medical reduced by more than 50% after they hit the collections agency because at that point it is no longer the hospital that owns the debt, it is the agency.

Take a $2000 dollar medical bill that you aren't paying for whatever reason. The collection agency will buy that debt from the hospital for a set amount of money (lets say $300 in this case) for the right to collect on the $2000 balance. A lot of people panic and pay the $2000 immediately upon it affecting their score. In this case, the collection agency profits $1700.

You CAN negotiate down that debt when it hits collections. In my previous scenario you could probably pay between $500 and $1000 and the collection agency will be satisfied.

I have a few similar bills that have set on my credit for over two years that I refuse to pay because the charges I feel are highly unethical. They are the result of "balance billing" in an ER setting, something that is now illegal in the state of Florida to do. I still qualified for a home mortgage when the loan processor saw the bills were medical and understood they were in dispute. Your credit score is just a number, nothing more.

How can I have a 723 credit score and live in a nice apt in a safe neighborhood if I am not responsible?

just a number until it isn't and you do not get hired ,do not get an apartment or do not get a loan .

medical bills have been an area of debate and fico 9 scores do not include any medical bills at all . so while you stand a chance of explaining away medical bills a poor score is a poor score if it is anything else causing it .

but to say it is just a number can prove to be a poor statement .
