He's been dead since 1974 but I have reason to believe the estate may have some unclaimed property.
Thank you.
He should be listed on the s.s. death index and that index tells s.s. numbers.
You can also call the county in which he died and get copies of the probate records.
Also the executor of the estate would have been involved in getting his last tax return filed and that has the s.s. number.
My mother was executrix but she has been dead since 2006 and there are no tax papers for my father. I was surprised to see that SS# is not on death certificates.
Will the probate office in the county give that information over the phone? I rather doubt it. But it is worth a try. Thank you.

Why don't you visit -- not call -- your local Social Security office, with documents in hand, including his birth or death certificate and a photo ID for yourself?
His death certificate should have his social security number on it. Any registrars office should be able to provide you with a copy (fee). Yiu will need documentation that you are his daughter and they will give you a certified copy.
My son died a year ago and they made it very easy for me.

Because he died in Oklahoma and I live in North Carolina!

For at least one good reason I can think of: In some places, anyone can request a death certificate. Putting the SSN on it would facilitate identity theft.
