I've often wondered about this too. How much creativity and entrepreneurial inspiration this country may be missing out on by so many people being tired to the health insurance they get at their corporate job.

Self employment can be expensive in the early years, and it isn't for everyone. Making sure that one has the necessary capital is a big part of the self employment question.

Or do you believe that taxpayers should subsidize your cost of health care so that you can start a business?

So get a job at a place that offers those benefits. Starbucks hires tons of no-experience high school kids. You should be able to get a job there and solve your health care issues.

Exactly. I wonder how we got to this place - quite a good deal for the insurance companies!

The uninsured worker who is required to purchase overpriced insurance might not look favorably on his neighbor's untaxed employer-paid and taxpayer-subsidized insurance.
How about those people with higher incomes that the left likes clobbering with higher taxes. While the middle class is able to deduct and some even get a healthcare subsidy, a lot of deductions are phased out for high income. While lower class can take these deductions to lower their taxable income, higher income can not use these deductions to reduce their taxable income depending on their income.

People with higher income don't benefit from the mortgage deduction because it is phased out. For 2015, married couples filing jointly will have their itemized deductions reduced when their AGI exceeds $309,900. Other items are also subject to the phase out provisions, including IRA deductions, education credits, student loan interest deductions, personal exemptions and the child tax credit. And then they can be hit with Alternative Minimum Tax. They don't get a healthcare insurance subsidy either.

And the left keeps telling the people lets clobber them over the head more and then expect them to invest to grow and hire more people.

Phaseouts - for deductions, Roth IRAs, etc - are a dastardly form of stealth taxation, which I oppose. The phaseouts exist as a gimmick to squeeze more taxes out of higher-income people while hiding the impact through a lower nominal tax rate. I support transparency in taxes, get rid of the phaseouts and be honest about the ACTUAL rates you want to extract from taxpayers.

For nearly every tax break that phases out for higher earners, there are taxes (like SS) that drop off for higher earners.

The sad amount of money you can invest in an IRA is what needs to be changed, not the phase out. It should be doubled or tripled.

This is perfectly appropriate, as the benefit is capped. If you don't want the phaseout, uncap the benefit.
