there have been times i've paid whatever the mechanic/contractor/agent has asked me b/c i have no idea if that's a good price and sometimes i'm desperate for the service.
the thing i've regretted most was overpaying this very shady dentist by about $4K to do some crowns. one of the crowns quickly broke and he wanted to charge me the same price to re-do it! he was a total a**hole and i gave him horrible reviews everywhere. anyone else regret overpaying for anything?
My degree. I went to school out of state, earned a degree, and ended up disliking the reality of my chosen profession. I ended up getting out of the field entirely. I wish I'd stayed in state and picked another major. Even a BA in art history in state would have been just as useful since with what I do a degree is required, but not any specific degree. But it is what it is. I do suppose the degree out of state helped me get the job I have now (the executive director is an alumni too and that contributed to me being hired).

How soon did it break? usually they cover it under warranty for 1 year.
My education. I haven't really used my degree which is medical based, I went into business instead. Arguably when I graduated my degree gave me a small boost in pay and I hope to do a career change soon into medical based business where I'm sure my degree will be a factor.. till then I'd have to say my education both in money and time.
If we're talking about a physical thing, I purchased a CPO SUV a few years back for $22k. Drove it for 3 years and traded it in for $14k when the warranty ran out. Typically when I buy a car the depreciation only costs me about $1,000-$1,500 a year. That was like $3,000 a year. Otherwise, I'm very happy with how I've used my money so far. (knock on wood)
Back in 1993, I begged my mom to throw down $1K for a LaserDisc player with built in karaoke, Sega Genesis/Sega CD/LaserActive, & TurboGraphix/Duo system.
It was cool for a few years, but went obsolete. I also invested about $1K in Sony MiniDisc recorders and players (home audio, car receivers, and Walkmans). Through that experience, I'm now a calculated late adopter of technology. I tend to buy 1-2 generation old iPhones for pennies on the dollar. I find that it's both expensive and regrettable to be too current.
I regret overpaying for cable ($200/month) but there's no other options. Comcast has a monopoly here.
Same here. Regret my Verizon Fios bill every month. We do have Comcast to choose from as well but their pricing is the same. If it wasn't for sports and not much other choice for internet I would drop them like a very bad habit (which they are).
