Years ago, when I was working I set up some mutual fund accounts that let you add $25 monthly on a direct bank automatic transfer, that was a great way to save, & I really needed that money last year. I prefer to spend my coins as I get them, so they do not add up. I use bottle refunds for milk etc.
I donate my empty cans and bottles to anyone I see walking along the road picking them up for spare cash. I don't care for panhandlers, but if they are out working for a few bucks they get my support. The last one was a woman trying to get a yard service started and she needed money to put gas in her work truck. She was a nice person. I wish her well.
If you put it away and forget it, it accumulates over the years. Adding it to CDs is a great idea, the OP has a really good thing going on. I should consider it, because I wait until I fill up a water cooler jug, which I only did once, and it took 14 years. It weighed over 200 lbs, and totaled over $3,000.00! I considered that found money, and used most of it towards a badly needed vacation. Yes, I have other savings.
Good for you! Wow. That is what I call making your money work for you.
I collect change in a heavy glass vase. When it's full, I take it to the coin star and exchange it for gift cards that I give away for birthday or Christmas presents. I get about $80 or so when the vase is full.
Those take a cut. While not substantial, you should be able to get cash back at your bank for free.
