Turn 65 in July 2018, FRA is July 2019. I would like my first check to be the amount I am due in July 2018 although I understand that will pay in August 2018. So I will collect 5 checks in 2018.
When should I apply to have the first check arrive in August (which is Julys benefit)?
I also want to be able to have the Medicare application done at the same time.
I understand apply in May, 2 months before July birthday and that check will be there in August.
Applying in May will also make me eligible for Medicare in July so I can cancel the ACA.
How's this sound?
And will a PO Box or mail receiving service be a sufficient for SS and Medicare as I am in the process of relocating with the same area.
usually it only starts automatically if you are collecting a check , disability or railroad retirement . everyone else seems to have to enroll .
from medicare site
Do I need to sign up?
If you aren’t getting benefits from Social Security (or the RRB) at least 4 months before you turn 65, you'll need to sign up with Social Security to get Part A and Part B.
i was 65 in october but i wanted a check in october coinciding with medicare .
so i applied in june for starting in sept with first check in oct
Since you applied 4 months in advance did they give you the option of receiving your first check in September as well as October
In that case it would be the August check payable in September.
And were you able to enroll in Medicare Advantage or one of the supplements in advance as well or does that enrollment need to wait until one is one Medicare?
3 months prior i applied for both . the application asked which month i want to start . you get a check the month after you start . so i started in sept , my birthday was in october and i went on medicare in october so i got my first check in october which is the sept check .
i got my medicare cards about 2 weeks after i did the application . they just were not effective until oct1 . once i got the cards i was able to call and get my supplement medigap plan . i wanted no part of any advantage plans .

Hubby went in early to check on Medicare and was told how much he could make in that year and still get the maximum. The agents are very considerate and show you your options. Go talk to them. Everything was arranged with that one visit for both of us and went like clockwork.

MJ,
Was the amount of your first check your benefit amount at age 65 or was it the benefit for age 64 and 11 months?
And if one chooses to get the full benefit at age 65 and the first check comes in November how is the Medicare B payment for October made without a check that month?
64 and 11 months. If you are not collecting and start medicare they give you a quarterly bill up front to pay
