i remember back in the early 1980's i hit 100k . no one in my family ever had a 100k . it seemed like such a milestone . it was a great feeling and it seemed like it was so much money .

well today we have had market days where i go up and down about half that in one afternoon .

so the relevance of these numbers over time become less and less meaningful .

in fact if all we had was a million which can generate about 40k before taxes , we would have had to re-think about retiring when we did here in ny because it would not have been the retirement we wanted and the budget would have been strained and stressful . ..
