So the credit card companys arn't "stealing" by driving up the interest rate if your a second late on a payment then oops, your paying 29% because you agreed to it but never thought god forbid, you'd be just a tad late on a payment.
B-T-W i have a friend who works in good ol Corporate America an "XYZ" Bank ( did not want to give the name) in their credit card division making a whopping $200k a year which includes bonus performance.( no college degree!!) More than your police, fireman etc,who put their lives out on the line everyday. They are not hurting whatsoever.
The original OP said she'd pay the original balance. If the greedy credit card company wont settle for the original amount owed but wants all of the interest for several years then they do deserve not to get a cent.

Collection agencies are scum. Send them a letter offering them a one time settlement of half the orginal amount ($1500) and tell them that is your final and best offer and, unless they accept it, they can go pound sand and never to contact you again.

That is true. According to Clark Howard, they buy the debts for pennies on the dollar so they will take a 50% settlement offer.

Whoa, I never said the credit card companies weren't greedy. They're not stealing because you are well aware of late fees when you sign up for a card. Also, most companies will not only settle for the amount owed, many will settle for less. I simply said that anyone who has the money to pay back a debt but instead chooses to conceal the money and declare bankruptcy is a thief.

Thank you for taking the time to give me advice. We are not that far in the hole they just want to sue him for alot more than what he owes. I can not figure out why they wont settle for a little more than what he owed before all of the interest. If you have any advice on what to say to them to get them to settle that would be good. I am almost willing to tell them I am filing for bankruptcy so they will settle with me & it will be over. It will take them years to get all the $$ they say they want from my husband rather than take what I have to offer.

I do not understand why you waste your time trying to ruin other peoples days with you rude & depressing attitude. You might think of another way to occupy your time rather than replying negativly to peoples questions when they are just asking for advice!

If you're talking to me, I was just giving you advice. In response to your other question, most of the time if you have a lawyer call the company they are willing to settle for a lesser rate. Just try it, because I work it usually works especially if you say you can't afford to pay it and you might have to declare bankruptcy if you're forced to pay the total amount.
