It’s if you link your card you are getting a coupon for up to 1.50 or so for plus your usual cash back on the card
Got it. The OP didnt make that clear in his posts. So its basically like what I call in the Amex Gold/Platinum world is "coupons" that is in addition to the regular benefits (x amount of cash back or points) on the card.
Chase recently gave me a very generous bonus on my credit card in addition to already having accrued $40 worth of points within a month of having the card. Where else would I have gotten this kind of value? The cashback offer, even with the fine print issues, really benefitted me.

Perhaps I shouldn't ask, but; how much did you have to spend for that $40?.
I've only found one deal outside of AMEX that really was of true benefit, on a Goldman Sachs GM rewards card.
For spending $1,500 in the first 4 months, I received $300 in free auto parts and service; which I needed.
They also have a 10% cashback for spending $1,500 in gas during a one year period.
when did they have 5% back on five guys as a catagory?
i have seen coupon offers of a buck or two but i dontremember a 5% on five guys . ever since they ended groceries that category had nothing i could use.
i already have an amazon prime card which is 5% all the time .
so pretty much until they do groceries that freedom card sits unused.
we get 5% back on groceries up to 500 a month from our citi cash card every month .
we exceed that so i would use the chase freedom when they offer it on groceries too

I'm honestly not sure. I know I've spent well over $500 to receive the $200 bonus so the $40 was accrued over 1 or maybe 2 months. I should have kept track more.
So set up monthly auto pay like I do and it’s never a problem
.
Always pay them off when the balance payment is due. Never carry balances from month to month, so the cc companies cannot keep charging interest.
