the problem is there is a lot of waste. its cheaper to the consumer and better overall for trash volume if you a) use a service like Culligan that softens and filters the water coming in from the main, b) buy a fridge with a filtered water attachment, c) buy a filter to put on your tap, d) buy a filtering jug that goes in your fridge, or e) use a service like arrowhead or sparklets that uses plastics that do not break down into the fluid as fast as standard water bottles(you can tell by the # in the triangle on the bottom of the bottle, lower the number the shorter the shelf life)

That's what I was going to say. the water at my parents house is terrible, but they put a filter on their faucet, which in the long run is cheaper than buying a "12 pack of water."
