I heard from a friend that oil jobs offer a very good salary. Like 2k a week or somthing. Is this true?

I did some research on the internet, but most sites require you to pay??? wtf? Like those websites look fishy.'

E.g. Find Oil and Gas Jobs with Oil Job Finder - OilJobFinder

My question:

1) Do you know more about the oil industry
2) Any legit websites with info/ employement opportunities

From what I have seen the pay sites are all scams.

But your question for the pay rates sound about right. But you earn every dollar and thin dime.

Consider that $25/hr X 70 to 80 hour week = over $2000.

You will probably not start there, but those and more are the experienced hand rates.

Check out websites for Halliburton, KBR, Fluor, Zachry -- more and others if you want.

Look at the True TV web site, then the Black Gold forum. The posters talk about many things. How much they make is in there.

I've worked around many people in the off-shore oil fields. These people often have a ton of money and enjoy their jobs, and they are more nearly safe then ever before. Try Offshore Oil Rig Jobs (http://ezinearticles.com/?Offshore-Oil-Rig-Jobs&id=80074 - broken link) for an idea in this field. You can make more than the President (legally), and they need cooks, technical, labor, housekeeping...

You could try the Bearing Sea fishery. Just don't watch the Most Dangerous Catch first.

I worked for phelps drilling in Alberta, Canada and started as a roughneck (floorhand). Work schedual is 14 days staight 12 hours a day with time and a half after 8 hours followed by 7 days off. Pay was 24 per hour for 8 hours, then 36 an hour for the last 4 totalling 288 per day and living allowances ( u live in temporary structures) ran about 50 per day. A person starting out can expect to make around 4600 per 2 week hitch. Hope that answers your question
