The Lord helps those who help themselves. Maybe you should put just the tiniest sliver of effort into your over 1 year long job search for a minimum wage job. Minimum wage jobs are so easy to get, they'll hire someone who has zero skills.
They aren't necessarily easy to get. You really think a 72 year old with ruined thumbs is going to be offered a position when there are dozens of applicants?

Blessed are the merciful...

If the OP had been able to get on a waiting list for rental assistance in 2009, they'd be near the top of the waiting list today.

I can see what OP's problem is. She somehow missed the notice that you pay rent before you pay anything else. You don't pay the lights, because it does you no good to have the electric payed when you don't have a house to live in. if you have to, you pay the rent and sit in the dark for the month, with a roof over your head.

You don;t pay the grocery bill first. You can't carry all those groceries with you to the homeless camp. If you have to eat ramen noodles for a month, at least you are eating them with a roof over your head.

Why is OP paying your son's insurance and child support? Maybe it is time for him to learn to stand on his own two feet instead of letting his very broke parents support him. And why, incidentally, does he need car insurance when there is no running car?

What happens when you pay the rent first and your DL is suspended because you paid the rent instead of the car insurance, and then you get a ticket for driving without insurance, and then you don't pay the ticket because you paid next month's rent instead...and, you know...

Just curious.

What can you do? You can label yourself the loser that you truly are, I guess. If you can't pay your bills, you get another job to earn more money.

Unfortunately, this is what happens when you operate in crisis mode. It becomes normal and familiar and continues down the generations.

Shrug. I'm not the one who didn't pay their car insurance but I've seen stuff like this on Parking Wars. In PA, DMV suspends your DL for 90 days if your car insurance lapses.

Salvation Army Emergency Services (not thrift stores) or Catholic Charities are good places to start. Social workers for these places know every program in town...

In my experience, when I've seen this, there was usually an elephant in the person's budget. In most cases the elephant was rent greater than half their income, but it can be revolving payday loans, a garnishment, a neighborhood crack dealer, or just about anything.
