Do yourself a favor and work with a financial planner. I don't know where you will be living, but there will be many to choose from just about anywhere in the country. I'd start by asking friends and family members for any personal recommendations that they may have. If that doesn't yield much, then I'd look online or in the phone book to get some companies in your area (search under Certified Financial Planner). Once you compile a list of prospective planners, sit down with each one and talk about your goals. From here, you should be able to pick the one that you're most comfortable with and begin planning your financial future.

Good for you - it's never too early. First, talk with a friend or relative that seems to have a financial sense about things. DH & I were lucky enough to have a relative who early on gave us great advise about personal finances. It was tough at first, being young we wanted to spend - but now, especially with the current financial crisis, we are THRILLED we did the right things and started early!

Does the military have any programs that you can take advantage of to get you started in the right direction?
