It won't matter what kind of card I have; if it's due, I get the payment in as soon as possible.

I have everything budgeted, so I pay certain bills with certain paychecks. I get an e-mail from my cc companies that my statement is ready, and when I do I go right into the website and schedule the payment for the due date. That way it's done, but the mioney doesn't come out until I have the money in there to cover it.

Starting in 2010 the Federal laws on credit cards will be changed and they will be required to mail out the statements at an earlier date to allow the card holder more time to pay the bill. They will NO longer be allowed to raise the interest rate on past purchases. << There are exceptions to this one but I'm not sure what it is.

Call you card company and if you are a good customer and do not have a history of being late they will more than likely wave the late fee. Just don't make a habit of being late and they will work with you.

CREDIT CARDS ARE A BAD THING...I like to call them the scum of the earth.

I only get my mail once about every 5 weeks so I need to keep track of everything online. If I have anything on my credit card it gets paid right away.

Good tip Sandy. People need to be very careful with bills and statements. Also watch for incorrect charges.

I have missed a few payments by a few days over the years. I have always had luck calling the card company and admitting I messed up. Can you help me?

They have always refunded the late charge.

Credit card issuers are notorious for this practice. Mine does the same thing.

So this is a free public service announcement to please check the due dates every month, because those late fees can be bad.
I've also heard that American Express has done this.

I think credit cards are wonderful!

I get to use their money interest free AND I get rewards.

I had my CC company try this one on me. The due date was the day after I got it. And it was mailed the day before. I noted this on the payment portion of the bill.
