Really FREE Credit Reports
Skip the BS site that's advertised all over the place. Here's how to get your free credit reports. You should do this every year.
To get your reports, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call 1-877-322-8228. You can also request them by mail at: Annual Credit Report Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281.

You are correct. But you dont think those credit agencies let you get away totally free do you? There are many tricks to get you to subscribe to various other things as well as upgrading your free report for another fee.
Nothing is free but yes you can get all the basic free information you need if you are careful.

We get ours each year for free.
Since the 1980s we have gotten ours for free. It is required by law to offer it for free.

the annual credit report
for free by law in each state service is different than the companies that charge you for it and have catches and other offers. don't confuse the two. i print out applications each year from annual credit report.com and send in a 3 bureau report request for free, along with a copy of my driver's license. no fees or catches

Better Monitoring
I agree, www.annualcreditreport.com is the best one to use, no obligation, etc. but true, no FICO score. The best place for consumers to get their FICO score is at myFICO - FICO Credit Scores | Get a Free Credit Report Online (the Fair Isaac Co.), for a fee
Here's a tip:
One way to stay on top of your credit report on a more frequent but regular basis, is to order one (free) every four months, i.e. Transunion in April, Experian in August, and Equifax in December (and so on). This way you can catch possible errors sooner...

I second the above comment, AnnualCreditReport.com is the only authorized source to get your free annual credit report. You can request your free report online, by phone or by mail.
