Here's a great feel good personal finance story. This family should be congratulated for their committment to doing the right thing, as should serve as an example for all of us. Congratulations to the Hillenbrand family!

And now that that's paid off and over, they're gonna splurge and go out to McDonald's for dinner. Might even pitch all their ramen soups.

That is just a great story! Wish they'd make a movie of the week about that instead of the medical emergency of the week.

But I had to laugh - did anyone else see the ad on the right hand side? It said:

I disagree. Making a 'getting sick' analogy I think that filling for bankruptcy would be the equivalent of treating the symptoms, not the root cause. If they had just declared bankruptcy I believe it would be more likely for them to mismanage their finances again in the future... (no pain= no gain/lesson learned)

I agree with Vandre. And just think about the lessons they've taught their daughters: you have to deal with the consequences of your actions, you can't live out of your means forever, etc. What a great story. I know for a fact one of the reasons I have a good relationship with my finances is because of my mom sitting me down from the time I was 10 and teaching me about money management.

Well, they could always file for bankruptcy again. But 5 years is a long time to live like a mole, it may have been more financially advantageous to file for bankruptcy.

I bet they are Dave Ramsey listeners! This is not unusual - lots of people are doing it these days, and they call into Dave Ramsey every day to say they are debt free.

I just wish I could stay the course as they did. I do well then fall off the wagon. I am half Scot and they are suppose to be so tight and yet that gene just passed me by.

Dave Ramsey is an idiot and a hypocritical jackass. I can't believe people still listen to that guy.
