Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone on this forum used a credit repair company / attorney and how has it worked out?

I've heard of success stories after a foreclosure, and wanted to know if anyone here knows if it's true.

Thanks.

I heard you could do it for free, however they say you have an advantage with an attorney because after they repair your credit, they could easily put it back on your record, but with them, it's alot harder, i'm not sure, so I thought I would ask.

I had two calls a week offering credit assistance. The thing was; I didn't owe anybody any money. 99% of it is BS. Go to Free Credit Score & Free Credit Reports. No Credit Card Needed get a 100% free Trans-Union report, and go from there.

What power does an attorney or law firm have over removing entries from your credit report. Seems like your better of doing it yourself and the creditboards forums gives you all the contact info you need to handle this on your own.

The problem with doing it yourself is that the credit bureaus often will do what's referred to as a "soft off" which means they'll take it off your credit for 30 to 90 days and then it pops back on again. The system is really designed to keep your credit low once you get into trouble. There are 8,000,000 credit repair companies in the US and sadly most of them are scams. There are legitimate firms out there like LifeLine (www.tossmealifeline.com) who can assist you at reasonable rates. LifeLine was founded to help folks fix their credit to become homeowners after the founding partners had poor results from referring clients to other firms. Fixing your credit takes time...often as much as 18 months and federal loans are impossible to remove. Much of it comes down to turning the system on itself and wearing creditors down or challenging those that have gone out of business. Be patient and find a good firm but the days of doing it well yourself are about over....

Free Credit Reports Credit Repair Counseling Increase Your Credit Score Debt Consolidation

Why pay someone when you can do it yourself....I used the above board forums to go from a high 500's to a 740ish score....did it happen over night...nope...took about 3-4 years...no credit applicatoin, paid cash for most everything and when I did use a CC I paid it off, would never put much on it anyway...

The above board has alot of knowledge...and a lot of phone numbers, and address to the senior officals of comapnies. I even wrote the to the presdient of Alltell to ask for removal of a problem...45 dyas later it was off my report for good.

Even if you used an attorney/reapir agency it still would not happen over night...you are still talking 3 - 4 years....

Correct, anything you challange is SUPPOSED to be removed from your credit report until it is either verified as being a true debt or not, if not it comes off your report for good...if it is verified it stays....

Start writing letters, you have more laws that stand behind you than those people do....thoes people play you and hope you do not know the law...
