What, now? Or at any time? Back in the mid-80s I often had to feed my family of four on about $10/week. Let me tell you, we ate a lot of beans and rice and chicken.
Currently, I spend about $5/day for food, for myself, and I could easily cut that in half if I needed to, farther than that if in a real pinch. I sat down last year and figured it out, and I
could eat healthfully and get enough calories on $1/day if hard-pressed. There wouldn't be a lot of variation in my diet, but it's do-able even while staying healthfully balanced.
