Last summer my son found a swallow that had fell out of its nest when some morons down the street knocked it down. He brought it home crying and asking me to help him save it. I called the wild life rescue and found out what to feed it (dried cat food mixed with water to make it soggy), and we all took turns feeding "Ralph" in his "nest basket" on the kitchen counter for about four weeks until he grew some feathers. When he started flapping, we moved him outside into a "cage" made out of our fire pit screen, a dowel, and his nest. We taught him to "fly" and back and forth to us holding out our fingers. One day instead of coming to me, he took off with a group of his own kind that were still hanging out in the neighborhood. We were sad to see him go, but happy we succeeded in our cause to save him. We'll probably see him next summer when his group returns.

Almost forgot Sally, a tiger salamander and a water turtle we had to catch snails for. Oh yeah, I had a land snail for about 1 year too. That's what happens when your Dad works for the Conservation Department!

Awesome ! ! What kind? I've got 4 box turtle hatchlings and 2 sulcatas. The boxies are hibernating now, so no recent photos. The sulcatas are sucking up all the attention they can before spring comes and they have to go back outside! They have the most amazing dog-like personalities!

I also had a prairie dog many years ago. What a neat little guy. He went to a local rescue group that did school tours and stuff. He was the mascot!

Sherman (the biggest) and Bradley (the year old hatchling) sulcatas; the newest of the boxies and the three other boxies after a bath:
