I have a 6 inch red ear slider who has never eaten live fish before. I've kept him with minnows, bettas and mollies. Recently, I added angel fish, gourmari and red tailed shark.

He started harassing all of them except the minnows (which have grown from tadpoles to 4 inch goldfish).

So far, he hasn't caught any...but 1 of my sharks was missing this morning leading me to believe he ate it. I dont get it? Why is he going after these and leaves the others alone?

It's natural instinct.

Of course he will eat the fish. I am surprised he hasn't before now. My res is about 3-4 inches and he gets 10 minnows a month to every 6 weeks. He is a wild animal after all.

Hey all...

well, turns out he was just 'playing with the tank mates'. So far the new fish are still there, however I happened to be missing 1 zebra fish and 1 shark And no signs of them in the filter....I ended up buying a decorative hiding stump just so the slower fish could escape. Originally they were all to be feeder fish, but now Im addicted to buying new fish LOL.

He's gotten used to them now and its been over a week and non have been eaten and he doesn't chase them around anymore.

By the way...I believe my RES is wild too, found him crossing a street near a salvage yard covered in dusk and algae. But part of me thinks he may have been released into the wild due to his friendliness with the fish and appetite for turtle bites
