Good question, why are they still being sold??

FDA should pull these treats until they can find a definitive cause for the numerous complaints.

Don't buy dog treats Made in China!!

FDA urges caution in giving Chicken Jerky Treats (http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm048178.htm - broken link)

Here's the rest of the story: On August 20th, 2007 it was learned that Wal-Mart had quietly removed Chicken Jerky treats made by two Chinese companies from their shelves on July 26th, due to complaints about the treats making dogs ill. No recall has been issued.

This is part of the above linked article: 2007 !!!

Most dog treats are made in China and I refuse to give my dog any of that junk. His treats are apple slices, carrots, unsalted peanuts and other safe stuff. I also buy cheaper hot dogs and give him a slice of that as a treat.

Beef Jerky we humans eat is also what my dog gets. It's no more expensive and a far sight better.

The only thing we fed our dogs while I was growing up was leftovers. And they all lived a long and healthy life.

If factory A has tainted jerky that jerky is halted, but factory B also produces jerky and until they are identified as the culprit, they can keep shipping. But if they are shut down, remember that factory C, D, E, F, G and H are also producing it.

But the real reason its still being sold is consumers don;t care and continue to buy despite common sense that tells you to be careful. If you go to the FDA's pet food recall site, youll see some known recalls that have been talked about forever on this forum AND a whole bunch of other that have not so much as had one word of caution. Selective concern. A product is only a problem if people talk about it, otherewise they will cpntinue shoppinga nd buying products with questionable origins and vendors because they save 20 cents.

I buy Kona's Chips, made in the USA.

My parents buy the crap from China, and they give their dog several jerkys a day. They refuse to switch to a USA brand.

My dog's been eating those treats for YEARS (actually his favorite), and they've never caused a problem... he's almost 6 now, and healthy as a horse.

I didn't read through that whole link, but did notice one post from a vet tech - who said her dog also eats them without a problem, and there's no reason to believe they're tainted/dangerous. If they were really killing dogs, wouldn't they have been recalled by now? So many other foods are quickly pulled, I doubt they'd just sit on one for no reason. Sorry, but I refuse to live in paranoia, and have to trust that MY pet shops (I don't go to the chains like Petco/PetSmart) know what's good or bad.
