Here's your 1 positive "pit bull" story, plus 15. Oh, and a video about hero "pit bulls". I only put 16 stories and 1 video because I got sick of coping and pasting, there is many, many more stories about "pit bulls" saving people, giving their lives for their owners, etc. If people really wanted to hear the good stories, they would be all over the place, but because these are so many sick people out there that only want to hear horrible stories the media makes crap up and twists stories around to give you what you want so they can get their ratings.

The media does and says what it has to to get their ratings. People don't want to hear the good stories, that's why you never hear them. The media twists crap around to make it as horrible and over dramatic as possible so that sick people that only want to hear made up horror stories will give them their ratings.
From some different websites describing the true "pit bulls"...
"In fact, the well-bred American Pit Bull Terrier is a family guardian and protector; an intelligent and obedient pet; a sweet, even-tempered dog that serves well as a help-mate to handicapped owner and friend to small children; and a healthy, hardy dog that complains little and offers much to his family."
"When treated well, APBTs typically have sunny personalities. They are very sweet, curious, intelligent, and clownish. They are noted for their outgoing, affectionate, eager-to-please disposition and their fondness for people. They adore attention, often relishing the company of humans and are notorious for their loyalty to their masters, even giving their lives for them. When raised with a firm but fair hand an APBT can make a wonderful family pet"
"Despite the stereotype, the average, sound-minded pit bull is not a threat where children are concerned."
"APBTs were never bred for human aggression or guarding behavior; generally they only will attack if they perceive an immediate threat to their masters or families rather than seeing every person as an intruder upon their territory. They were originally bred against human aggression because in the pit fighting days the handlers had to be able to handle their dogs as well as treat their wounds, and if necessary, quickly pull the dog out of a fight for various reasons. Any dog that did show the slightest sign of human aggression in that day was 'culled', and therefore, not allowed to carry on its bloodline. For that reason stable examples of the breed are generally not suitable as guard dogs. It is important that APBTs who display any sign of human aggression are not bred, in order to preserve the stable and friendlynature of the breed, and equally important that man aggressive dogs are never kept."
"That sly smile, those determined eyes, that umwaning pleasure to please.... These are truly quality companions for quality owners only! This breed is a good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet, which is good with children and adults. Almost always obedient, it is always eager to please it's master."
"Known for their intelligence and loyalty American Pit Bull Terriers make excellent, loving and protective companions despite the unfair press they receive."
"Solid training will produce a tranquil, good, obedient, companion dog."
First of all, "pit bull" isn't a breed, it's a term used to group three of the most stable, people-friendly breeds in existence, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terriers. "Pit bulls" are three of the only breeds that have been bred specifically to be amazingly human friendly. In temperament testing the APBT always test better than most popular family breeds such as Goldens and Beagles and they are the perfect breed to have around children. "Pit bulls" are very animal aggressive because they were originally bred for things like bull baiting and dog fighting. "Pit bulls" have to be well socialized starting at a young age to tone down the animal aggression and they should never be left unattended with an animal even if they are friendly to other animals. Anyone that doesn't understand this should not own a "pit bull" and obviously these morons that own this "pit bull" don't know this or just don't care. People like that should not own any animals period!
Now, to say that the children could be next is absolutely asinine. Obviously this dog is not human aggressive and to say something like that is ridiculous. These dogs were bred to fight and/ or kill animals and at the same time they were bred to be human friendly. If these dogs shouldn't be around children than dogs like Goldens and Beagles most certainly should not be around children. APBTs were once called nanny dogs or nurse maids dogs for their love and dependability with children. As I said before, they are amazing dogs to have with children and that is a fact. They were bred to be amazing with people.
Here is some interesting info on "pit bulls"...
-"Pit bulls" are known as nanny dogs for their love of children.
-For hundreds of years "Pit Bulls" have been bred to have a human friendly disposition and an overwhelming sense of need to please their owners.
-"Pit Bulls" are currently used and suitable for all types of service work including drug detection, emergency rescue, service and therapy work, military service, and much more.
-The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is additionally one of the most intelligent and easy to train breed of dogs. The trainer of the show dog Lassie has even remarked on how the APBT is his choice of breed for training.
-The second Petey (Lucenay's Peter) from the Little Rascals was a UKC registered APBT, Lucenay's Peter. In 1936 he was cross registered with the AKC as a AMSTAFF.
-The WWI Poster dog was a "pit bull".
-Staffordshire Terrier, Sergeant Stubby was decorated WWII war hero. He sought out wounded soldiers and caught enemy snipers.
-Popcicle, the Number 1 US Customs dog is a rescued "pit bull", that was left to die in a freezer.
-During the 20's, 40's, 50's and the first part of the 20th century the American Pit Bull Terrier was the number 1 family dog.

Moderator cut: copyrightsIf you check out any dog websites, any websites that describe the true temperament and nature of different breeds, you will see that the three "pit bull" breeds are truly amazing, stable, friendly dogs. If you want to believe all of the made up, twisted around, over dramatic media stories and crazy, unbelievable myths, that's fine.. sad, but fine.
I'm not defending "pit bulls", I'm simply stating the facts and getting the truth out.
I hate to play devil's advocate here, but here I go. I am going to try very hard to stay on topic with this, so please bear with me. For those on the forum that want to eliminate (3) entire breeds because of the irresponsibility of individual dog owners, does that not in a way perpetuate the irresponsibilty ? Blame the dog that was raised by man, blame the dog that was taught by man, or blame the dog that was instinctively acting (who would have known) like a dog. It is a very sad story and rightfully so, I feel for the animals that were killed, and for your father who was undoubtedly frightened to death. "Pitbulls" in many cases are trained for having a high "prey drive". They are trained to hunt wild hogs all over the south. If the dog that attacked your fathers goats was in fact a trained hunting dog, I really cannot see how the dog can be at fault. It falls back to the responsibility of the owner to know his dog and restrain it properly in all situations. I have owned a "pitbull" mix and have been around too many to count, and I have never been threatened by one of them. They are wonderful breeds, great with kids, people, and other animals if socialized properly. Again all of this gets back to responsibility of the owner/trainer. Please research back in the 20's about the APBT. Soldiers coming home from the war were starting families and they were all having children. The breed of choice was the APBT, it was the number 1 breed in America according to the AKC for a long time. Due to it's temperament and resilence it was clearly the family favorite because kids could be rough with it, and it would take the beating without harming the child. Irresponsible people have transformed these animals into killing machines that strike fear into the uninformed. The irresponsibilty of the media has made the 3 pit breeds a target for people who do not know better than what the media reports (they have created a witch hunt) , irresponsibility on behalf of owners, irresponsibility on behalf of trainers, and irresponsibility of all the people that refuse to educate themselves on behalf of the (3) breeds lumped as "pitbulls". All animals have instincts that they cannot turn on and off, human beings know right from wrong, yet we are still irresponsible in allowing them not to be responsible for their actions or even worse their lack of action. Be responsible adults, educate yourselves about the breeds you so desperately despise.
City governments and politicians are to blame also. It is easier for cities to just ban pit bulls than it is for them to deal with the real underlying problem of irresponsible owners. It is also a lot cheaper for them to do it that way in the short run. Very rarely does government actually want to fix a problem when they can just sandbag it. In a way it is our fault because we keep these politicians in office.

Yeah, I agree. Something is going to have to be done one day though or we will end up killing of every dog in the world! Until the real problem (irresponsible owners and breeders) is addressed, NOTHING will get better!

I agree with both of you. It's the d@mn owners, not the dogs!
The politicians just ban the breed since that is the "popular" thing to do and is also the safest as far as them losing votes.
I wish there was more emphasis on enforcing the existing laws and punishing bad owners rather than just punishing the dogs.
I read in an article that in cities and areas where they had passed BSL, there was no significant reduction in the number dog incidents as a result of that legislation. Shocking!

I completely agree! The laws that we already have need to be enforced! I'm not surprised one bit that the dog bites/ attack didn't go down after enacting BSL! Haha! They haven't fixed the problem, so of course it won't help! Certain breeds might not be allowed in city limits, but people that break the law anyway don't care about a new law, so why in the world would BSL stop them? And there are still the same irresponsible owners and breeders! They will just move on to the next breed and make them mean!
Wow, I didn't realize there was this much action on this thread.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers and well-wishes .
I do want to say that I was never angry with the dog. I felt really sorry for it, which is why I named the thread "Irresponsible Pet Owner".
It was a sad situation all over. I felt bad for my Dad, the dead goats, and for the dog. I know that a lot of what happened is b/c the dog was being a dog although I will always wonder why it ate parts of it's kill.
I was really upset with the way that Animal Control handled it, and I am still angry with the owner. I am sure that that dog had been abused, and he probably wasn't feeding it (which is why I am assuming it ate what it did).
I don't like to pass judgement on any breed of dog ( or people ) but I do believe that just like everything else that exists in this world, there is always the good, the bad and the ugly.
I do want to comment on the banning of the breed or any breed at that. This is something I was brainstorming while reading through all the posts, so it is not well thought out (don't bite my head off please). There should be a national registry of breeders, and only they should be allowed to breed. Even if they are breeding mixes. All other dogs, cats and whatever else is filling up the animal shelters all over the country, should be spayed/neutered or registered in the registry. I am sure that something like this could be set up, with exceptions as warranted. This could even be just a temporary thing, until they get all this stuff under control. It should be regulated for a while to maybe flush out the bad guys. I guess though, that there is always a way around it, just like everything else, and that where there is a will, there's a way, so it probably won't work anyway.
Oh well, back to the topic. If he would have done what he was supposed to, none of this would have ever happened.

Thank you for not being quick to just hate the breed! It seems like people are alway so quick to just hate "pit bulls" where as if this was a different breed some of the people that are saying "pit bulls" should be banned would blame the owners. People can't get past all of the made up, over dramatic stories, the myths and the rumors and see that most of the time there is a reason behind what these dogs do. Well, there is always some kind of reason, but with these dogs that just randomly attack, there has to be some serious abuse and neglect or some kind of illness. No dog, no matter what breed it is, just randomly attacks for no reason. Dog aggression is nearly always preceded by some kind of warning, and there is always a reason behind the attack. However, many inexperienced owners do not recognize the dog's behavior as aggression, or refuse to acknowledge it as a warning sign. The only exception I can think of is Springer Rage, a rare and controversial neurological condition that manifests itself as a spontaneous attack, followed by confusion, and then a return to normal behavior. "Pit bulls" are NOT prone to this condition. There are individual dogs of any breed that may be more aggressive to others. I do think that in this case the dog was abused or at least neglected and probably wasn't fed. I know some of my posts probably sounded a little mean, but none of them were directed towards you. I really appreciate you calling the thread "Irresponsible Pet Owners" because it sounds like that's what this was. I'm just glad that some people do see things for what they are instead of just being blinded by the media and all of the myths. I'm glad that you and your father are okay and I'm sorry you had to go through something like this! The dogs owners really should be punished! Did anything ever happen to the owners? Was the dog put to sleep?
They tried to find a home for him, but they couldn't. So they took him to the 'shelter' and since they never adopt out 'pit bulls' he was put to sleep.
I think the owners got fined for leash law and rabies violations, but that's it. Tha animal control guy was an idiot. I still can't believe he told us to eat the goats...
Thank you for your sympathy(?). I love dogs and I think I can deal with them better than people! And btw, I didn't feel anger directed towards me in any post from anyone.
