I don't know Rudy (dog) or Bindi's (cat) birthdays, so I just made my best guess! When I adopted Rudy in Jan '06 he was estimated at around 12 weeks old, and with puppies they're usually fairly accurate with that... so I counted back 12 weeks, which ended up right around my birthday of Oct 20th, and then went with 10/30/05 instead. Just seemed like an easy date to remember, being the day before Halloween & 10 days after my birthday.
When I rescued Bindi from the streets in Sept '08, I first thought she was only around 3-4 months old. She was SO tiny!! The vet agreed too, until he opened her mouth and saw she had all her adult teeth... so he then changed her estimated age to "between 9-12 months," and deduced that she was malnourished (to explain the small size - which is definitely no longer the case, LOL). So again I just counted back, and picked a date that was easy to remember. Of course, I have since forgotten that date, so I just move her up a year sometime in September.
I "celebrate" Gotcha Day. (The date they come forever home) I put celebrate in quotes because I don't really do anything special for them, since every day is a special day with them in my life already, I mean I already arrange my life around their comfort and care, but I do take notice of the date, and post their story, with pictures, to particular people.

When we don't know the birth date, we celebrate the adoption day. And since I'm Greek, celebrating "Name Days" is big in my culture (bigger than birthdays, actually). No matter which date we celebrate on, all the fur kids look forward to opening their gifts, shredding the wrapping paper, playing at their party, and eating pup cakes!
