My dad boards his horse at a farm that has a ton of mud. He's trying to find the best way to control this problem. What are some things that he could suggest they use? It seems that after all the rain we got last summer (in New Jersey), the mud just will never go away! They have tried sand and stones and didn't like either. Thanks for your help!
The ground is soggy and cant leech the liquids into the ground, they ahve to dry it out, or pump out the excess, or build up the area so drainage will occur naturally, or install drainage and sumps, or.... If its a small area, it will cost some dollars but is doable. If a large area, major grading/grubbing/contouring will be need at a big expense.
drainage is #1 and if a clay heavy soil the leeching back into the ground will not be great. I know farmers here have used silt sand in areas that would get flooded some and build with slight grade and pack that down as when dries gets hard and water will roll off like was concrete. If could work sand into the soil may help.
