Even animal-rights activists who hate the circus couldn't have dreamed up this potential pitfall: An elephant with Ringling Bros. was wounded overnight in a drive-by shooting in Tupelo, Mississippi, reports the Clarion-Ledger. The good news is that "Carol," who was in an outdoor enclosure at the time, is expected to make a full recovery from her shoulder wound.
I wouldn't say that activists wouldn't think up such a thing. You are talking about the same people who have gone around dog shows and put antifreeze into drinking water bowls and left notes, "better off dead than living in a cage"

This was my first thought, an extremist animal activist who believes the animal is better off dead than "enslaved" to humans (the same type who wouldn't approve of a sanctuary or zoo setting for the animal)
