Delta is not for pets.I had no choice but to useDelta.Never again.Shipped a 10 wk old puppy to Harrisburg Pa.The flight had one change in Atlanta.Man drove 300 miles in snow and no pup.Tryng to talk to Delta on the phone will make you pull your hair out,After 2 hours on the phone(I talked to 1 live person) I gave up for fear of a ruptueed blood vein or stroke. My only recourse was e mail. In 2 days I got e mails saying sorry they were busy and would get back to me in 3 to 4 days. Meanwhile the man in PA was allmost arrested because no one could tell him why the dog got bumped in Atlanta but not the flight. The flight with the pup came in and the man had been at the airport for over 8 hours. He finally got his pup and had to drive 3 hrs in the snow to get home.NO ONE OFFERED ME ANY COMPEBSATION OR REFUNDS.IM GLAD THE CRITTER FINALLY MADE IT BUT TRUTHFULLY DELTAS PET SERVICE REALLY SUCKS.Post to every pet site you can find and let the world know how much Delta cares for our pets!

We flew Delta (connecting flight), back in April this year with 3 pets. Thank goodness all went well. I didn't know their history of losing pets. I sure won't fly with them again if I have to take any pets with me. Sure hope the OP got her cat back ok. They charge for flying your animals so there is no excuse for this, but then look how they treat us humans when you fly anywhere. I was able to keep my Peke with me on the flights because of her size and I paid something like $200 some dollars and what got me was other passengers coming on with luggage way bigger then my pet carrier but you have to pay because it's a "live" animal. Give me a break.

I had heard other horror stories about pets not having a smooth ride on Delta, and in 2002 I had to fly from DC to Egypt with my 3 cats... (a friend's dog had been stuck in Paris for 3 days a few months prior). My options were a 13.5 hour trip via Paris on Delta or about 16 hours via Frankfurt on United/Lufthansa. The kidz drew straws, and one of them went on board with me and the other two went in Cargo on my flight - on United/Lufthansa. I have to say that for that trip, I was impressed... at Dulles, the last thing before the cabin door closed, a cargo person handed my pet "claim checks" to the stewardess to let me know my pets had been loaded... wow... then when I got to Frankfurt, the airline folks called down and checked on my pet... and again, before they closed the cabin door to take off, the stewardess gave me the claim check to show my pets were on board. Ok, in Egypt I was a bit taken aback when the luggage carousel started and the first two items to roll out of the "window" were my cats, but they were in great shape and they even had unspilled water in their travel bowls! (Believe it or not, when I came back to the States with them several years later, for some reason a person with two large suitcases, a carry-on, and three cat carriers was deemed suspicious... can you believe I got searched when I landed in Boston????)

My next experience with United on an overseas flight was not as "friendly", but my pets made it fine. I have to admit that I won't travel on the domestic flights with my cats, though... before leaving for my last overseas trip, I drove them down from New Hampshire to DC so I could get a direct flight with no connections Stateside. Domestic air travel is just too much like a coach bus ticket with a shoehorn in the luggage compartment for me...

KLM and Lufthansa get very high ratings for air travel with pets, but I have never heard anything at all positive about Delta. I do hope Buddy has settled back in at home...

I think it may help to have some "insurance" such as a microchip. It reminds me of a cat that was lost somewhere in Britain. The whole story was shown in TV. If it hadn't been for that chip, the cat would've been lost forever.
