I have a good friend who just took over managing the local Humane Society shelter. She is a very compassionate person and works hard to help animals to find loving homes. However it is not a no kill shelter. I don't believe that the two things are mutually exclusive. She is working hard to get the community active in projects that can help to reduce and alleviate the overcrowding problem that occurs in any shelter. BUt the reality is that there are far more homeless animals in the world that there are homes for them to go to. Making room for more adoptable animals by euthanizing those with severe problems is not necessarily a bad thing.
