I saw a story online about an elderly woman with Alzheimer's who starved her small dog because she forgot to feed him.

If you see any signs of dementia or forgetfulness please keep an eye and call adult protective services if you see problems.

That story and poor tiny dog that died when it was skin and bones is heartbreaking.

I guess this must happen a lot. Hopefully most people will have relatives come in and they will spot any issues before it gets too bad.

Check on elderly people regardless, but yeah, I never thought about someone forgetting to feed ... poor doogie.

Good advise, especially for this time of year when the weather is cold and snowy in many parts of the country. It may also be difficult for them to get to the store to buy dog or cat food.

My MIL had dementia before we were aware of it. Thank goodness there were no pets in the house.

I've seen this happen firsthand...fortunately not to the point of death tho. Very sad situation.
