Do you sing to your pets?
I love to talk to and sing to my pets. Luckily they appreciate it as well. I often make up a song and insert their name in it so they know I am talking about them or singing about them as it were.
Rufus knows his name so well, he perks up, opens his eyes and looks right at me when I say or sing his name. Salem knows it well also and comes running to me like a puppy when I start singing his song.
I have a white cat (Tumnus) who is at least partially deaf, I think he can hear some sounds but not much. He purrs all the time so I have been singing a song to him, I don't know the name of it "Get your motor runnin, head out on the highway...", you guys know the one I mean.
I have also been singing "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are grey.." to him and he seems to enjoy it. I always hold him close so if there is any chance he hears anything, he might catch a scrap of my voice here and there. Sometimes I talk right into his ear which he is fine with.
My dog is so old I really don't think she can hear anything but the loudest of noises.
My sister used to have a spaniel who would bay at the moon when we sang to her, it was hysterical to watch, a sad commentary on our singing skills.

I do this constantly. My dog doesn't seem like she cares much though. She just lies there and listens. The dog I had before her (she died a few years ago) would "sing" back sometimes. I thought it was the cutest thing.

I have one bird that I put on my shoulder and sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to.
The funny part is how he sings along. He screams his little parrot babble - completely off-key - but when we get to a certain line in the song, he switched to english for one word.......
Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are, UP above the world so high......
That's his word - "UP" - he gets so excited when we get to that part of the song and he never misses it....... UP! Then he goes right back to parrot babble.

That sounds so cute. When he is not singing does he speak other words or is UP all he does?
Parents are such amazing animals.
My Grandmother used to have one, Pancho was attached to my Grandmother and hated her husband. So of course he taught the bird to cuss and say things like "Pancho is a dirty old bird. Her husband used to flick water at the bird and he would flick back bird seed. It must have been a sight to see those two fussing at each other.

I love parrots, I wish I had the time to have one for keeps. I've rescued a few, which is very satisfying. Last one I rescued was a couple years ago, an African Grey. Most neglected loneliest thing you ever saw, so bored she'd picked out half her feathers. Totally unsocialized.
Took me about a month to get her to let me handle her, and after that she was the most snuggly bird. Feathers all grew back, and she started talking like mad. I found her a good permanent home about six months after that. She knew about 100 words at that point, it was amazing she learned them so quickly. I used to sing "Yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me! ARRR" and she'd chime in yelling "YO HO...MEeeeeeee! ARRRRR!!" Cracked me up every time. She would hunker down and say "Head scratch??" and when I'd go to scratch her head she'd pretend to bite me and then go "Hahahahaha!" Went to visit her a few months back, to check on how she was doing with her new family.
Turns out they have two dogs whom the bird loves to tease. She'll whistle and then say in her owner's voice "Here dogs, good dogs!" and the dogs will come running into the room and then the parrot will sit and laugh at them while they look around for their owner...
Gosh I miss having a bird...

I don't sing to my cats, but I talk to them all the time.
They don't speak English so I answer myself back in different Kitty voices.
My daughter thinks this this is extremely weird.
The cats think it's normal.
