Good boy, Dumplin

Beware of pig: Authorities in Indianapolis are crediting a family's full-grown pig with scaring off a burglar or burglars who broke into a home just weeks after the property was purchased.

awww, cute. A piglet alarm!

I once went through a break-in when my son and I shared a small apartment with our dog and two cats. I came home from work one day to discover the door had been jimmied, which terrified me...my first thought was for my pets. I found all three huddled together under my son's bed...all very scared, but unharmed. So then I called the police, who showed up, assessed the place, and at one point said to me, 'Wow, the burglar really did a number on your place, huh?' referring to the mess of clothing and toys all over the floor. I just nodded in agreement, knowing - but not disclosing - that my apartment had been that messy prior to any break-in. (Hey, I was an over-exhausted working single mom, housework wound up being a low priority in those stressful years.)

And the officer who responded to the call had also asked me if anything had been taken, to which I responded, No, nothing was missing that I was aware of. He smiled and said that my dog most certainly must have scared them away...and again, I only smiled and nodded, not telling him that my loyal dog had been a quaking mass of jello under the bed, trying desperately to hide behind my two cats, who were infinitely braver than her.

I'll bet you anything that the pig in the story would have been far braver than my three musketeers.
