Petition to stop "artist"
Please sign and help stop this... Or find the exhibit and get the dog. In 2007, the 'artist' Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, took a dog from the street, tied him to a rope in an art gallery, and starved him to death. For several days, the 'artist' and the visitors of the exhibition have watched emotionless the shameful 'masterpiece' based on the dog's agony, until eventually he died.

Does it look like art to you? But this is not all... the prestigious Visual Arts Biennial of the Central American decided that the 'installation' was actually art, so that Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat his cruel action for the biennial of 2008.
PLEASE HELP STOP HIM. It takes a second to help put a stop to animal abuse.

I hope that scumbag reads this: ********* and your sick art. This info has been sent to many of my friends who are also spreading the word to boycott you and your filth. You need to taste some of your own medicine. Disgusting!
You need some "alone time" with Bucho. He's my mad, bad Vietnamese centipede that'll swell you up so fat youll look like the Sta-Puft Marshmellow Man and feel like youre on fire to boot! I have plenty more pets that would LOVE to meet you too and make you suffer like you did that poor dog. ROT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Snopes could not confirm or deny that this happened. The Nicaraquan government doesn't have a policy on animal abuse but WSPA got involved by asking some questions and public outrage may yet get this "artist" taken off the list of exhibitors. Apparently, he's not gonna use any other animals this time around. But, who knows. He says he wanted to bring to light the irony of how people will stop and stare at a dog in an exhibit but not take any notion of its plight on the street. What a sad statement about the artist.

On the contrary it's actually full of hope and inspiration, but that energy and effort is being wasted on boycotting this artist. Instead of actually trying to help out you're communities animal shelters or what not to help getting stray dogs off the street...

I don't buy this for a minute. He paid children to wrangle a dog for him and then he held it captive. He could have called for veterinary care - the dog could have been supplied with IVs...something...anything to keep the dog alive until the show was over and the dog could then have been left in the full-time care of the vet to bring it back to health. He did nothing of the sort.
He's no artist, he's a media *****.
And shame on all those people who walked into that building and walked back out leaving that dog behind to die .

Yeah, they can all go inhale some anthrax too. All those people with their backs turned, and the pitiful couple just staring at it while the dog is suffering. EFF YOU!

The uproar this has caused may do some good toward the government's lack of policy. They probably cannot understand how other countries care so much. This reminds me of the rodeos in Mexico and estrogen collection in North Dakota/Canada; inhumane to the max.

I hope so, Ark, I really do. We all know there are horror stories for animals everywhere, but this is a horror story in itself. If it can somehow be turned into something positive, that will be good.

Absolutely. I dont know why I keep coming back to this thread, but I do. I have gotten to the point where I scroll right past the pics in an effort to try and forget what I saw, but those images will haunt me forever. I hope the artist faces some kind of law for what his cruel self did. UGH!
