BTW I have a friend at work who is going to ask some of her friends with horses if any of them would be willing to do a free lease. She and her friends own gaited horses. I've never ridden a gaited horse - any thoughts?

Along with "Babe" I had an American Saddlebred (long story about her) and she was gaited. Like riding a rocking chair when she got into her stride. It could almost make you seasick...but the gait was so smooth that my upper body barely moved.

That horse looks huge! Are they all really tall? You know we've talked about the whole logistics of me getting on and off the horse.

Shadow was about Aprils size 15.2 Most breeds come in different sizes. & the plus with Walkers & Saddlebreds is they Park out for easy mounting

Why does shadow look so tall? Is the guy with him on the shorter side?

Not sure how tall Cliff was...he my friends hubby. He is also standing a bit down hill from Shadow.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_Walking_Horses

Sizes range from 14 hands [pony] to 17 hands

I was once told that Baby had Walking horse in her cause whenever I would go to mount & dismount her she would Park out.

Parking is a trained stance, any horse can be trained to do this, although it is more common in gaited horses. But it is hard on their legs when used for mounting and also can be dangerous when the tack starts slipping, for rider and horse. the Park is also a term used when showing a stud, look at stud services, most show the horse in this stance.

I think Baby learned this trick from Shadow.... But while she spead her legs out she also stood square & braced herself. Funny thing was she only did it with me. When she was yearling I was in the pasture with her and another horse kicked me in the sciatic nerve distroying it. So she learned to park to help me mount...when I fell off do to no balance she would return & put her head down when my arms were around her neck she would lift me up.... When my son was taking riding lessons on her he taught her leg aides...with me she ignored them & only did neck reining. Lots of things she did that she was never trained to do.....
