I point out that dogs help the blind, help the police, help find lost people, and generally provide companionship and protection for (elderly) people. It's of no use.

Do you know people like this? Personally, I think that someone who categorically dislikes domestic animals has something a little off with them. Any thoughts?
I think people who don't like animals are strange I take great comfort in my pets

I personally don't like animals only because I was attacked by a dog when I was four and then I was forced to pet animals when I was young. So when I go to my friends house I just stand up the whole time. I'm working on taking these "mental" handcuffs off and I want to work my up to actually having a dog and then working my up to cats. I'm morbidly scared of cats more for some reason!

I've never met anyone that "hates" animals, but I know people who are afraid of cats and dogs due to being bitten as a child etc. I feel badly for people like that.

I can only speak for myself here. I feel an overwhelming connection to nature and animals. I have much love and respect for animals. I like when I go to someone's house who has, say, a cat that doesn't like anyone and they come out to greet me. To feel like Snow White is pretty awesome. All that being said, I can't really relate to people who don't like animals. I understand that people have various reasons for not liking them, I just don't get it. All in all it is not a big priority of mine to understand why people do this and that. The one thing that does drives me nuts is when people come into MY home and complain about MY animals. Seriously, do us all a favor and not visit. Thanks.

My mom has two cats and a dog. I hate them. Cat 1, meows constantly, especially when my mom is around, because she thinks she will get fed. Cat 2, meows to get let in and out of the house all the time. Dog, will get into any trash can available, when she is left home alone, or when she thinks I'm the only person home and I'm asleep. My mom teaches these animals to be annoying, my dog gets excited when my mom puts her jacket on and is near the door, because she automatically thinks she is going to be taken for a walk. Cat 1 meows because my mom is the designated cat feeder, and instead of teaching her not to meow, she has taught the cat to meow by giving into it at times, when the cat meows way too much she will feed the cat to make her stop. But sometimes, she squirts the cat with water to make her stop, which seldom works. When I am left home alone for the weekend, my mom takes the dog or leaves her in a kennel, but I am left to take care of Cat 1 and Cat 2. I teach them not to meow. I feed her when I want to feed her, not when she wants to be fed, and I feed her around the times she is supposed to be fed. Sometimes I lock her in my mom's room or the bathroom if she meows too much. I like Cat 2 much more as the ONLY time he meows more than once in a row is when he wants to go outdoors or come indoors. Even then, that does not mean that I like him enough to have kept him around if it were my choice. If I am home alone, I let him out or in if I feel like letting him in or out. So by treating the cats like this, they learn to meow much less, but LITERALLY the INSTANT my mom walks through that door, Cat 1 starts meowing, expecting to be fed, and Cat 2 is most likely close enough and in desire enough to go out or come into the house.
Dog always has a guilty look on her face when you look at her, whether she's done something or not, unless she is instead excited. She is excited by simple things, such as my mom dancing for a few seconds, and she begins to bark when she does this.
And I do not feel love from animals, simple-minded beings that cannot learn simple things, such as not barking or meowing constantly, because it does not work.

Thank you for bothering to read what I have written, maybe you will understand why there are people who hate animals. And I didn't even get into the long discussion about animals leaving brown or green or white presents all over the floor when they get sick.

By the way, what is the word to describe people who have a "hate for animals," similar to the word "misanthropy," "general dislike for humans/people"?

I have known people like this and I don't understand them at all either. I tend to avoid people who don't like animals because I kind of don't trust them. Its like I know we can't have much in common.

I love my pets, my cats sleep with me and I would kick a boyfriend out of bed before I would one of them. I prefer the company of my cats to my family.

Those same people think I am out of my mind though so whatever.

You mention dogs that help the blind, they have dogs that can sniff out drugs, weapons and smuggle animals at the airport. Dogs can sniff out cancer cells in people, predict when an epileptic is going to have a seizure. Medical studies show that caring for an animal, cat or dog actually can lower your blood pressure. I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety and having one of my cats in my lap or next to me helps me feel better.

What about all the therapy animals, dogs and cats that go to pediatric units in hospitals and nursing homes. How can you discount their contribution. I have seen autistic children calm right down when they are holding a purring cat.

Anyway,I LOVE animals. Especially cats. I don't know anyone who doesn't like animals, and if I did I wouldn't know them for long.

Whoa. Believe it or not it's quite a distance from preferring not to live with animals to being a sociopath. Being different than you does not qualify someone for a psychiatric disorder.
BTW, I love animals too.

^^You don't find what that person said to be a little crazy or odd? They sound like they are on the verge of insanity by just having to listen to a cat meow,or because the dog wants to go outside with its owner. That to me is just a tad bit looney and short tempered, and those two things together are a very bad combination.

It sounds like they're jealous to me.
