I'm glad now my doggie has been on a "designer diet" for the past couple of months! Actually I was really complaining about it because we've been going thru food trials for her allergies. This food from the vet is $2.50/can! She had been on Nutro, but mostly the dry.

so by paying more for the "fancy brands" are you getting the same formula as the less expensive ones

MYFASK: I actually did just now go look at the can to make sure it wasn't the same manufacturer! You have a good point there.

Good point! I also made that same observation recently concerning human food. I'm happy to feed my cat what she gets though I pay through the nose for it. All of her food has no fillers, it is organic, VERY LOW ASH (very important for cats!), and they have added extra vitamins and minerals in it to include Omega 3 and fish oils. My little dog is so picky (she is the real cat in the house! ha ha) that she won't touch "health" food for dogs!

Actually, I've read in the past that those fancy brands really are not that great.
We feed dry too, with the occasional shrimp for the kitty.

Did anyone else read or hear where the ingredient was wheat gluten???
{I know that's an ingredient in food that causes problems in people...Celiac Disease is one example.}
My vet mentioned it to me and of course checked the ingredients on the dog food bags...luckily, not in the one I have.

Yes, I read that in the paper. They'd changed suppliers or something. God only knows what we're feeding our animals...read the ingredients and in some cases you'll almost make yourself sick! All these additives can't be good for them any more than the additives in our food is good for us.

Ive never fed my dogs the wet food, because i found when i did they liked to leave parcels on my carpet more!

I use 'Purina Puppy Chow' and 'Nunn Better' adult dog food. I did a comparison of one of the adult Purina formulas which was 18$ or so for a 20LB bag with a Nunn Better $8.99 a 20lb bag and they were the exact same thing!

That's just like name brand *anything* compared to the store brand...no difference. All we as consumers are paying for is a label/name.
It's very deceiving and yet people still buy the more expensive name brand thinking they are getting a better product. Not the case at all.

NoMoreSnow - That is terrible. How very terrible. I am so sorry to hear this. What part of the country does your friend live in, and which food was it (do you know)?

She lives in "upstate" New York - Herkimer. I didn't ask which brand did it to them. She just lost her dog a month ago, too, but not for this reason. The dog was old and had a stroke. Thanks for the kind words.
