If that $200 or $500 value on the kitty is for it's lifetime expense, I honestly think, for the kitty's sake, you should give it to someone who will actually love it, and get a goldfish. Setting an advance price on your pets life is pretty cold.
Agree with you. I feel so bad for that kitty.
I spend $40 each month on medication for Max alone. When I found him he was so sick, and he has residual health problems from being abandoned my his mom too early.
A heart transplant is hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars. Animal care will NEVER cost that much. You are trying to compare two different things with completely different cost range. Your point is irrelevant.
I've heard of pet procedures that cost tens of thousands of dollars, so, no, my point is not irrelevant. For those who can't easily afford it and who have families, spending big loot would be completely irresponsible

It depends on the pet's age and whether or not the pet has a career.

According to Veterinary Pet Insurance Reveals Most Expensive Pet Conditions here is the top 10 most expensive pet procedures. $3000 will not leave you homeless and unable to care for your kids. I would take on credit card debt in order to save my pets life. If you can't afford such a big amount at one time, I would suggest Pet Insurance.

I've heard of people having $5000 vet bills. It's mighty hard to justify that kind of money. I may be rethinking my earlier statement. I'm not sure it's right to spend that kind of money on a pet even if you can afford it. There's just so much other good that can be done with that money.

If I had the money then I would spend it. My pets are part of our family, in fact I like them more then I do my real family. I suffer from Generalized Anxiety disorder and they bring me much comfort.
My cat Tumnus is in the hospital as I type, today I will have to make a decision. I fear I will have to put him down because he is not responding to treatment. My heart is heavy, I can't sleep, I feel sick. My daughter is going to be devastated about this.
