The funny things our pets do...
So I rescued a lab/sharpei mix on Saturday and he is settling in pretty well. One thing though is my house is all hardwood or tile floors except where I've thrown down an area rug in my office. This means Harper tends to slide. Even just sitting for me while I put on his harness his butt will start sliding across the floor.
So I'm sitting in the living room reading and Harper is sprawled out on the floor. He pops up into the sitting position (side saddle) and starts scratching behind his ear. Well not only does this sound like a big bass drum since he is hitting the hardwood floor each time but it is propelling him in circles. He is literally doing donuts while he is scratching his neck. He had to constantly adjust his front paws to keep from sprawling out as his butt scoots around the floor in a circle.
I couldn't help but crack up. He had me in tears for a good minute.
Anyway, what are some of your stories?

Simon has to have his dish filled with food even though he is not a big eater. He does like to sneak cat food. However, if his dish is in the dishwasher, he sits in front of the dishwasher and barks until I take it out and fill it up again.

I'm not sure if that falls in the cute or the annoying column but either way it is funny, lol.

Tom, it can be annoying since Simon is the only one who apparently cares about what is in the dishwasher. I think he would actually empty it for me if he could.

I wouldn't term this as crack up funny as much as just plain odd funny but our Basenji Chihuahua mix is spookily subtle in just about everything he does.
To get in or out depending on if we can pick up visual cues he will just sit by it and wait, maybe softly "chuff"- if we aren't directly by the door yet he can come to us he will position himself where we will eventually see him and just stare at us- either inside reading a book all of a sudden you will glance over and he is there staring- or if he's outside we'll be watching TV and he will be barely visible standing outside a window just staring in, sometimes its downright scary. If he is outside a door where we can't see him and wants inside he will subtly shift his feet back and forth just to enough to hear a faint clicking of his nails, or just ever so gently scritch, just a couple of times at the door. In the dead of sleep somehow we will wake to that and he gets to come in.
If he wants food or to go for a walk he will just start cycling through various quiet tricks on his own, sitting, lying down, rolling over but mostly just sitting up on his haunches and staring at you behind the newspaper or book.
And its not like he can't bark- the chihuahua in him is quite vocal at the postman.

Our Cat likes to block the doorway when the Dog needs in or out. Humans are also often caught in the traffic jam....... BRAT

Out of the blue, my rat terrier, Alex will start barking with his butt up in the air and his stumpy tail wagging in the air as if he's wanting to play. Then he'll jab at my thigh as if he's playing tag.. It's cute that he gets so excited but the jabs in my thigh get to hurting. There are several occasions when he'll do this when I'm napping- then it's kind annoying.
Another one is that he really likes his back scratched. Yes. I said BACK.. Strangest dog I have ever met! If I am sitting with my legs crossed, then he'll try to scratch his own back on my shoe. He can do this for hours!

We have a HUGE Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. He is the size of a Great Dane ! He likes to "sneak" up on stuff like a cat! He looks hilarious, because he crouches and wiggles his butt like a cat, then runs and pounces !! Well, you can only imagine what kinds of things happen when a dog that size "pounces" !!

Love the silly dog stories.
Maia, a goofy lab, is a handful. She gets into a lot of stuff she's not supposed to and I eventually tried spraying her with water from a squirt bottle to discourage her. The first time I sprayed her, she looked so shocked and offended that I couldn't help but laugh. Big mistake. She began to do her whole body wag, I laughed harder, she made a play bow, I obligingly sprayed again. So, she starts trying to catch the water in her mouth. She'll jump, snap at the water, and looks so confused when she doesn't actually catch anything. But she keeps trying. I can just hear her thinking, "One day, one day, I'll catch whatever you're spraying at me."
The squirt bottle game has become one of her favorites. Of course, the squirt bottle is useless as a deterrent, now, but we have a lot of fun with this game.
She does the same type game with the hair dryer. One day, while drying my hair, she got too close to me and I accidently got her with the air. Again, she looked so shocked that I laughed. And, again, it turned into a "catch the air" game. Now, whenever she hears the blow dryer turn-on she comes running and waits hopefully for a play session. It takes me a lot longer to dry my hair but her happy expression is worth the trouble.
