There are so many other things you can do. The biggest is transport!!! I've spend the last few days getting dogs from several shelters into rescues and several dogs that have been adopted in other areas moved from their foster homes into their forever homes. Right now I'm working on 2 little 5 pound puppies going from MS to TN on Friday and then on from TN to south FL on Saturday. Trying to find people that can just pick up an hour or two of driving time is incredibly difficult. It's a small thing that takes a few hours out of your day, but can save a life.

Other ideas:
  • Donate bedding, towels, food, supplies, etc
  • Donate toward medical costs. Mine are very high right now as I had a local spay / neuter program going on with the community for low income families where I offered to pay what the county didn't.
  • Offer any services you can provide; grooming, walking, etc.
  • Offer to help rescues with phone calls, reference calling, etc.

There are 100 ideas listed here. It's a great start to making a difference if you can't adopt or foster!

Good list. Here are some other things.

1. Many Petsmart stores (and probably others) have adoptable cats who stay at the store for a week or two. All cleaning and feeding is done by volunteers, not store staff and it must be done twice a day. Sign up.

2. Help out at adoption events. Unload equipment and help set up- canopies, xpens, crates, tables, chairs and dogs. help pack up at the end of the event.

3. If the org. does yard sales think of them first when it's time to rehome some of your stuff. Solicit donations of salable stuff from neighbors, co-workers etc.

4. Make baked goods- cookies, brownies, pound cake - they can sell and maybe some for them to eat too. If your a bit talented make a baby quilt or a bird house or things that can be raffled.

5. Help the foster folks with non foster chores - mow the lawn, bring a casserole, clean the inside of the windows of their car, help weed the garden or rake leaves or clean gutters, etc.

6. Have a link (signature?) on your email to the groups website and encourage people to adopt a homeless critter.

7. Search Freecycle and Craigslist for things like crates, runs etc that the org can use or maybe sell at yardsale. Learn about transport and post to your local Craigslist about the need for volunteer drivers. (I've recruited 3 people this way)

8. Find out about state and local legislation and write to your elected reps to let them know you want them to work on behalf of improving dogs lives; ie tethering laws, puppy mills, no BSL, funding for low cost spay/neuter.
