WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A bill before Congress with the backing of a veteran Hollywood actor would offer a per-person tax break of up to $3,500 for pet care expenses.
The bill, which was brought to U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., by "Goonies" and "Diehard" actor Robert Davi, is aimed at promoting animal ownership during the economic recession, ABC News reported Tuesday.
Hmmm, that's interesting. I don't think it's practical, but it would be cool if it happened. I have often wished I could get social security numbers for my two cats, which act like little kids.
Maybe someday it will happen. I look at it as us finally and legally accepting pets as parts of families, rather than mere property. Remember, it wasn't that long ago when there weren't any animal cruelty laws on the books.
They need to include a caveat that any pet that the deduction is applied to is spayed / neutered, otherwise it's also going to give puppy mills and back yard breeders a financial benefit as well. And I know, it says for your pets only, but do you think people as low as they are will be honest?? They'll just have more reasons to breed.

Aw, heck no! I agree with you, mrs. As written, it would be a disaster. There would be all sorts of clowns running out to get animals, then dumping them after they file taxes. Passage of such a bill is years down the road.
I think the very fact that it got national news exposure is a positive step in the right direction. It generates more discussion. Planting a few seeds ~
I don't have any illusions about a Bill, and a very loophole-ish one at that, being passed the first go 'round. Frankly I don't think the lawmaker who supported this Bill believes it has a rat's *** chance in h*** of passing either.
