Hi, over the past week or so my oldest cat, 15 yrs old, has stopped eating, drinking, or even moving. He lays in one spot all day. Hes gotten extremely skinny in just the past 3-4 days (of course over Easter Break so the clinics I usually go to were closed). Hes in pain, and I know hes old enough to probably have some sort of liver/kidney disease (tho he showed absolutely no signs before now of having any problem, he ate fine, drank fine, played with the other cats - tho he had gone from regular size cat to somewhat skinny about 4 months ago but stayed the same weight, even gained a bit, since then until now)..........
I have a 10yr old guinea pig, when I got up this morning he was unable to move his hind legs. Our local vet wants $180 to euthanase him. Is there a kind quick safe way I can do this myself?

I am so sorry I can't offer any suggestions, except to find another vet even if it is a long drive.
I want to comment I think your vet is abominable.
I had to lay two of my geriatric horses to rest this past year. Each time the farm vet came 25 miles to my farm, drove her truck into the pasture, near where the horses would be buried, administered cocktails for 1,100 lbs each time, and the fee was well under the $180 your vet thinks he should have for your guinea pig
I also laid a 13 yr old dog with heart failure to rest this year. That fee was $45 at the small animal vet. I brought her home and put her in the Pet Sematary, as well.

That's absurd. First you have to deal with the worse decision you have to make (I know, been there, done that) and not only is a painful in your heart, the vet is adding pain to your wallet. My advice is try to find another vet.
As to euthanizing him yourself, yeah, you can do it but will it be quick & painless? Can't answer that.
