I'm new to snow and winters, so I was helping you guys could help me out. I move very soon (hubby has already moved) and we're not sure what kind of tires we need for the winter and when to have our tires changed. Any recommendations on where to go, too?

We're living in Roxoborough, commuting within the city, and occasionally we'll be visiting my in-laws in Langhorne.

Thanks!

I highly doubt you'd want studded snows. I'm not sure about PA vehicle code, but they are often prohibited, especially on highways.

Dedicated snow tires are surely the way to go. Ideally you would have a "normal" set of tires on factory wheels, and snow tires on steel wheels.

You don't need either one; it doesn't snow that much. All you need are a good set of all-weather radials.

I think all season tires will be enough for a regular winter. However, Roxborough has alot of hills so there are going to be times when you're going to have to wait for the plows and salt trucks to treat the roads before venturing out.

I have all-weather tires on my Mustang, a car that is famous for bad traction, and they work beautifully in the snow. Of course we don't get much snow here and it doesn't last very long on the ground.

We're not on a hill, but we are on a narrow side street and were told it might not ever be plowed during the winter.

dedicated snow tires on a RWD car, all seasons on a FWD or AWD (4wd) vehicle. We have 4wd's in both our everyday drivers and we could live without it.. Its like a hi def tv.. once ya have it you finally understand what you have been missing and can't live without it lol
