Default Moving to Philly (new job)

Hi everyone,

I'm a mid 20's girl from the Midwest moving to Philly for my first job. I am looking for a neighborhood with amemnites I can walk to preferably, as I am unable to drive or carry things very long distances. I am single and moving with my dog (service animal) sometime in December most likely.

I filled out this questionaire too.

When are you moving?
December 2010

Where are you coming from?
I'm saying St. Louis, MO, as it is that last city I actually lived in. Currently in Little Rock for job training.

Why are you moving?
Job location, wanted to live in a city with good transportation, and wanted to be closer to my dog guide school.

Where will you be working?
From what I've been told, my office will be moving somewhere close to the 30th street station, though I'm not certain of the address yet.

Have you been here yet?
no

Will you buy or rent?
I will rent, preferably an apartment.

If renting, are you looking for an apartment, a townhouse or loft? How much can you spend?
Apartment. It is just me and a working dog, but I would like a dog friendly neighborhood/building as she (my dog) will be retiring eventually and I'd like to keep her. 1BR is really what I'm shooting for. I think I can afford $800 - $1000, but I'm not really sure as far as the maximum rent I can afford yet. (W/D in unit would be great, but on-site laundry is a must)

Are you keeping a car?
no car

Do you prefer bustling activity or calm and quiet?
The neighborhood I lived in in St. Louis seemed to shut down after 6pm, which was rather boring....So, bustling I guess.

What do you want to be closest to?
All of these...
Basic services (supermarket, drugstore, etc.)
Shopping
Train or subway stations
The first three are of similar importance, though I can take the third to the first two, not being able to drive limits some things. Nightlife is more a want than a need.
Nightlife

Do you want to live with people of a similar age, race, religion or sexual preference or do you prefer a diverse neighborhood?
I prefer diversity
Open for questions if you need more information.

Given all of your criteria I'd recommend the Queen Village neighborhood.
Queen Village Neighbors Association (http://www.qvna.org/qv/life.htm - broken link)

It's not exactly close to work but it's walking distance to the Market Frankford Line 2nd Street or 5th Street subway stations which would have you to work pretty quickly (about 30 minutes max, door to door). You're a few blocks to South Street's grocery stores, shops, restaurants and bars yet in a quieter SAFE residential neighborhood. The area is also very dog-friendly with several parks nearby.
