I've walked all around the area and really never seen anything close to campus that bad. By the way, capital 'T' in Temple.

We all have our varying levels of acceptability. An overwhelming majority find that area scary at best.

That's great. They can stay in their suburban bubbles then.

Or in an urban environment that doesn't replicate near third world living.

Sorry, but our campus doesn't remotely resemble 3rd world living. Where did you attend again?

Original Poster - you'll be fine at La Salle. The neighborhood - like just about every neighborhood in the city at this point - has its share of undesirables. But thousands of students traverse that campus every day and evening and 99% of them do so with no problem. Just use your head. Park in a well lighted area and try to walk with at least one other person. If you find yourself alone, ask the security people to escort you to your car. I've been spending time in that area for years and have had no problem with vandalized vehicles or threats to my personal safety.

Do you guys think taking the train to La Salle is safe? I'm probably going to drive, but I just wanted to see what you guys think.

Agreed...given the choice, I'd drive instead of taking public transportation. The Olney terminal is close by and is a very busy place during the day...just not sure you want to be hanging around there later in the day or at night.

Moving to phili due to Job relocation. I am single female 30-45 so I am looking for something safe. I also want an area with affordable housing, living expenses etc. I am looking for culture but don't feel that I need to live in the epicenter of everthing that is going on.
I have considered Pittburg but hear that in the winter it gets a lot colder than Phili which is how I came to choose Phili- Being that I am from AZ I am looking for the area that will offer more preferrable weather climate ( yes I do understand that it will be a lot diffrent from AZ)
I am also a working professional so I do like my peace and quiet and yet I am a very social creature as well. I would like to be in an area that has great potential for careers . Any advise that is sound from a resident of Phili who has maybe relocated there from the West Coast would offer some insight as to the adjustments I can anticipate, anyone who has lived there for more than 3 years after relocating and can offer some prespective and of course anyone who has lived in Phili for awhile who can offer advise on what the city has to offer.
Thanks in advance.
