Hi All,

My room mate and I have selcted an apartment complex about a mile from the stadiums near Broad and Pattison. It is next to the Golf Course at Roosevelt Park.

We are going to sign a lease soon, and we want to know what the neighborhood is like. We are both single and want the convienence of Center City, but not be directly in it?

Is this a good area to live?

Default The area

The neighborhood is very quiet; it's a relatively aflfuent area with a virtually 100% Italian-American population; it's considered to be one of the most upscale parts of South Philly outside of the bustling East Passyunk Corridor. As a matter of fact, some people find it to be a bit too quiet, because the neighborhood has a quasi-suburban feel with all its cul-de-sacs and parks (half of the block with the Eagles facility is also a park). Your loudest neighbors will be the occasional guidos who fit the Jersey Shore stereotype to a tee. There is not that much commercial activity beyond Chickie and Pete's, Popi's and the Penrose Diner, but further up towards Oregon and beyond, west of Broad, there are a number of restaurants (like Scanicchios or Langolos) and a number of cute bakeries south of Passyunk (like Potito's, Lanci's, or Cacia's). Even further, beyond Passyunk, in the Newbold area, you have South Philly Tap Room and the coffeeshop at that point, and with its hipster clientele it definitely starts to get that Center City/ EPassyunk feel.

i lived at 16th and porter streets for a while. awesome neighborhood and safe with a lot of walkability especially to food, but parking there is outrageous. if you don't have a car i'd look into this neighborhood, 'girard estates'.
